Moncton, NB – Following is a statement from Patrick Bouchard, Atlantic/Central Board Director for the National Police Federation, regarding the recent Moncton City Council vote to retain the RCMP as police of jurisdiction in the city.
“Yesterday’s Moncton City Council vote affirms the RCMP are the best positioned police service to ensure public safety for the residents of Moncton. Moncton is now among several municipalities in the Atlantic Region who have determined that the RCMP are the top choice for providing high quality and professional policing services in their jurisdictions.
While this is encouraging for the NPF and our Members, we know there is still more work to do to bolster public safety in New Brunswick and we will continue to advocate to the Province, municipalities and community partners to properly resource their RCMP so that our Members can continue to deliver the exceptional policing services New Brunswickers expect and deserve.”
