Campbellton, NB — The National Police Federation issued the following statement from Pat Bouchard, Board Director of the National Police Federation, expressing concern regarding a court decision earlier today that disregarded both Crown and counsel’s recommendation for a conditional discharge.

“We are concerned for the fairness of this surprising sentencing, and for the safety of our Member serving time within the public system as a police officer. This is a classic example of the urgent need for body worn cameras which would have provided a clear, credible, and unbiased perspective of the incident which we believe would support Crown’s recommendation.”

We will continue to support the Member, whose legal counsel has indicated is considering an Appeal.
