Moncton, NB – Following is a statement from Pat Bouchard, Director, Central and Atlantic Region, National Police Federation, welcoming details of provincial investments to fund additional RCMP Members in New Brunswick:
“Following the Government of New Brunswick’s recent Budget 2023 announcement of a 15% increase in the number of frontline RCMP Members in the province, the National Police Federation welcomes further details announced yesterday by Public Safety Minister Kris Austin and Justice Minister and Attorney General Hugh Flemming.
More specifically, we’re very pleased to see that $20.5 million in the Province’s policing services agreement will pay for 80 additional RCMP officers, including 51 new officers for rural areas of the province, which have been experiencing the impacts of RCMP shortages for several years.
The NPF has been asking the provincial government to increase public safety funding and resources for RCMP officers to meet current and future police demand. We welcome investments that contribute to New Brunswick communities’ evolving public safety needs. These funds will bring much needed relief for our Members, who have continued to fill gaps created by years of underfunding, and when they are already overworked, stressed, and not fully resourced.”
