The National Police Federation is currently hiring a Communications Coordinator (Bilingual) located in British Columbia to join our team.
Overview of the Role: The Bilingual Communications Coordinator supports the communications objectives of the NPF and the communications plan/strategy. This position plays a key role in the implementation of many communications activities to meet the needs of internal and external stakeholder’s needs.
Reporting to: Manager, Communications
Location: While this position is remote, the successful candidate must be located in British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities:
- Research and source content to build a timely and relevant social calendar.
- Management of content review and translation processes, including assisting internal team members with translation reviews.
- Management of creative asset process and feedback to external providers.
- Schedule all posts for campaigns and national social media.
- Coordinate Member Update approval process in a timely manner.
- Responsible for website and Scarlet updates, including the creation of new webpages as needed.
- Monitor all social media channels daily on a rotational basis to identify issues, trends, and opportunities.
- Report monthly on social media and Mailchimp using various reporting structures and interpreting key findings.
- Draft communications to recognize fallen Members.
- Provide back-up support (vacation, illness, etc.) to rotation tasks when needed.
- Update social media passwords monthly.
- Attend and chair internal team meetings.
National content creation
- Create content for national channels such as: social media, Member Updates, website content creation, plan and track social media advertising campaigns, administration of comment moderation, send updates and approvals process.
- Content to use NPF tone, guidelines, and relevant strategy, including other NPF teams when applicable.
Project coordination
- Self-manage workflow to ensure all tasks are completed within agreed timeframes and flag any concerns or conflicts to Manager with proposed resolution.
- Plan and attend events to promote the NPF and build relationships with Members.
- Support campaign strategy document and key messages, including identifying new opportunities, reviewing strategy to provide recommendations.
- Communications support for other NPF department initiatives.
Special projects
- Research, consult, and document various small to large project strategies.
- Research, write, and review creative assets.
- Contact and manage external product and service providers with support from Managers/Director.
- Create surveys and compile data reports.
Administrative tasks
- Organize work priorities based on tasks assigned by management.
- Ensure documents are filed properly.
- Suggest strategies to improve team processes.
- Provide timely updates on tasks using Teams and email.
- Ensure Member Updates are uploaded to the website.
- Review monthly team credit card expenses and submit them to the Finance team.
- Manage Rotation Calendar including creating the calendar and updating when needed on Teams.
- Update process documents and filing systems.
Creative assets
- Create actionable creative ideas based on project goals.
- Use understanding of photography and imagery to support goals.
- Video production coordination, including script writing, video story editing and supporting video project tasks for Manager approval and to ensure timely and effective completion.
- Review effectiveness of various creative assets performance.
- Interview Members on various topics, including highly sensitive topics.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing.
- 2+ years’ experience writing content for social media platforms, websites, and other external communications.
- Experience with project management and digital asset creation (asset).
- Bilingualism (French) required.
Knowledge
- General knowledge of unionized environment.
- General knowledge of policing and political environments in Canada.
- Strong knowledge of social media environment including trending topics, content guidelines, technical and new and emerging changes.
- General understanding of social media and digital marketing.
- Ability to juggle shifting priorities and intuition to know when to seek Director/Manager guidance.
Skills
- Technical knowledge of websites and Microsoft programs.
- Advanced writing proficiency.
- Proficient using Photoshop.
- Experience monitoring budgets.
- Ability to manage appropriate sensitivity around sensitive topics including interpersonal and group communications, and confidentiality.
- Professional interpersonal communication and relationship management skills.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office productivity tools.

Compensation & Other Important Information:
The starting base salary, depending on qualifications/experience, for this position is between $59,987.20 – $69,985.41 range. The maximum salary for the role is $89,980.80. The ability to advance through the salary range will be based on performance through our performance management program.
Starting annual leave for this position is 3 weeks (accrued as earned) which increases to 4 weeks after five years of employment with the NPF.
While some travel is required for this role, our remote work model includes flexibility in completing work hours and a philosophy in promoting a positive work-life balance.
