Campbellton, NB — The National Police Federation issued the following statement from Brian Sauvé President and CEO of the National Police Federation, following the dismissal of an appeal for RCMP Member Pierrick Caron:
“We are deeply disappointed in the Court’s decision to uphold a conviction and jail sentence on appeal, despite compelling evidence in the Member’s defence.
Two expert witnesses testified that the use of force in question was reasonable and consistent with RCMP training and standards. Additionally, an independent civilian witness corroborated the Member’s account of the incident, aligning with his report and actions.
Videos shared on social media never tell a fulsome story and only lead to armchair speculation and uninformed criticism.
We remain committed to supporting our Member and will continue advocating for fairness, transparency, and the safety of Members who serve and protect our communities every day—often under intense pressure and scrutiny.”
