We recently participated in a conference call with the FPSLREB to determine several administrative issues regarding the upcoming certification vote, along with QMPMA and the Department of Justice. We made some good progress, although not all issues have yet been decided.
The RCMP (DOJ) has until June 15, 2018 to prepare and provide a list of all eligible voters among RCMP employees to the Board. The NPF urges all members to ensure their home and work addresses are current within HRMIS so you ultimately receive your voting information. Regular Members and Reservists should log into HRMIS, select “self service” and “personal information” and “home and mailing address”. If the information is out of date, “edit” and save as necessary.
The NPF and QMPMA will then have until June 30 to scrutinize and provide input on the list.
The FPSLREB will then determine how ballots will be distributed to the membership and engage a third party, electronic voting company to run the election.
We don’t yet have dates for the voting period, but it has been confirmed voting will run for 4 weeks once announced and open.
Once voting is complete, the ballots will remain sealed until the constitutional challenge brought by the QMPMA has been heard and decided. The FPSLREB has reserved the right to make an oral decision at the conclusion of the hearing, which means they might make an immediate decision which would avoid a further delay while we await their ruling. We appreciate this contingency. A date for that hearing has not been scheduled yet but is expected to run at least 6 days.
We will keep you updated as we know more about the voting process and dates.
