NPF Update #2 Coronavirus / COVID-19

NPF Executive and Directors are actively engaged with RCMP Senior Management both Nationally and Divisionally, to obtain clarity and consistency in the application of policy and process related to COVID-19. The Commissioner’s Broadcast, though not complete, was thorough and addressed numerous issues, but there is still more that management needs to do to ensure the continual safety of our Members.

The NPF is hopeful that such measures will be available in the coming days.

We are First Responders and as such have an obligation to maintain the safety of the general public and all Canadians in all circumstances, from viruses to active shooters.

As Members, we support each other. In order to be prepared, we encourage all operational Members to ensure their service order #1 is complete. It is possible that redeployment of resources to support public safety in different communities could occur, so let’s make sure we are all prepared to support each other.

Should you feel your PPE is insufficient (gloves, mask, disinfectant, etc.) or the duties you are being requested to perform are putting you or the public at risk, the NPF urges you to advise your supervisor and request that a LAB1070 be completed in relation to the incident/occurrence.

If you have a pre-existing/underlying health concern that increases your risk if infected, you should elevate this immediately to your supervisor and request temporary accommodation to reduce potential exposure.

If you are exhibiting any of the COVID-19 symptoms (fever, dry cough, difficulty breathing) that could put you or others at risk, please self-identify to your supervisor immediately and remove yourself from service and begin quarantine/isolation procedures.

Your safety in all circumstances is the NPF’s utmost concern.

Please be safe,
